Dear REACH members,
I want to inform you of an important policy change regarding REACH the TOP (RTT). This accountability option will no longer be exclusively available for REACH support group members. In other words, it will not be required to first join REACH support group in order to access RTT accountability.
Previously, members could join just REACH for support only. Or REACH and RTT for support and accountability. Now, members will be able to choose support OR accountability OR both.
The admin team believes this policy change will be beneficial for the future and growth of REACH. We realize that some of our members are only joining REACH in order to access RTT’s accountability. The nominal fee to join REACH is worth it, really. But, they are intentionally inactive in REACH. That’s ok, because there is no penalty for that.
RTT is one of the few accountability options that still requires membership in a specific local support group. It’s been a constant effort to orient our members about the relationship of REACH and RTT. Even members who have been with REACH for a long time get confused.
As the admin team is looking to facilitate groupwide activities (and especially teen activities)…we implement activities based on the enrollment numbers of REACH. We have no way of knowing how many of those are intentionally inactive. We find ourselves working very hard to motivate the inactive members. It’s just extra effort to try to plan and organize activities this way. We hope this policy change will help us focus on the active participants.
One of the greatest benefits of REACH has been our accountability director actively involved–so that she is accessible to meet in person. This relationship will continue. Kim is still an active participant in REACH and on the admin team.
The name of REACH the TOP is an acronym for REACH’s Third Option Participants. Since the accountability will no longer be offered exclusively to REACH, the association name has to change. So, we are renaming/rebranding the association to SC TOP. South Carolina’s Third Option Participants.
The policy change is effective immediately–as of December 2018. SC TOP is now accepting registrations for the remainder of 2018-2019 school year. RTT is not accepting any new registrations at this time. All current RTT memberships are still in effect. All the RTT forms are still on the REACH website for your convenience. RTT members are also invited to join this new Facebook Group for RTT/SC TOP.
The REACH website has been updated to direct new members to join REACH support group, or SC TOP accountability or BOTH. Our best advertisement is word of mouth recommendations from our members. So, keep inviting your friends to visit the REACH website to join us. Keep calm and homeschool on!
Thanks for choosing REACH!
Kim Andrysczyk (RTT/SC TOP director)
