REACH has several on-going projects that we are collecting donation items. This is a quick and easy way to get involved by collecting these items. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a time/location to drop-off your donation collection.
We’re collecting items that you might be throwing away! Take a look and help us spread the word.
Boxtops for Education
REACH collects Boxtops for Education. Boxtops are found on a variety of products that you might already be buying. Don’t toss them out! Each boxtop is worth a dime. We can redeem those purchases into cash back for our HOMESCHOOL program!
We have two big announcements during the year when we remind members about turning in Boxtops. Start collecting now, so you’ll be ready for the next collection reminder. Even though you may only have a dollar’s worth or so, REACH can use those extras to help us cover the overhead cost of REACH or for helping some of our members in need. The collection and redemption process might not seem worth the effort to utilize. But, every little bit helps benefit our homeschool group.
Each spring, Keep the Midlands Beautiful does a shoe collection drive to help keep shoes out of the local landfills. REACH partners with this initiative. We arrange several opportunities for you to drop-off items at our group meet-ups. We count up how many pairs our group donates before we drop them off at Keep the Midlands Beautiful collection site.
We get credit toward our Green Steps awards too. This Green Steps project has two components: an environmental awareness project and a community service project.
- Environmental awareness: Old shoes pose a problem for the environment: The chemicals seep into the soil and the decomposing releases methane gas into the air. Instead, shoes can be recycled into playgrounds and sports fields.
- Community Service: What we consider an old shoe can be used in countries where they do not have shoes. Many of our shoes will be used to empower locals who can sell the used shoes. They can patch up and repair them to give the shoes a longer life.
Even if you don’t come to the lesson activity–you can still participate by donating your old shoes. Anytime you are cleaning out your closet, we will take your shoes. You don’t have to wait till the spring collection drive.
Dried Up Markers and Broken Crayons
REACH can also utilize your old crayons and markers. Don’t toss these items in the trash either. We have more Green Steps projects in the works. There’s no specific collection time or reminder for crayons and markers, so just let us know that you have a batch to give us. From time-to-time we may have specific items for some of our Green Steps projects–we are always looking for new ideas to turn trash into treasures!
Contact email@example.com whenever you have any of these items to donate. We will arrange a meet-up time/location with one of our admins.
