Resources, Encouragement and Activities for Columbia area Homeschoolers
Home School'n Pizzazz - enrichment classes offered for area homeschoolers in Lexington.  Many opportunities, 20 different classes, are available from science to writing, Christmas crafts to a local traveling chorus!  Have a look and then use the registration page to sign up!  Karen Clayton, certified teacher in North and South Carolina, will teach all classes.  We look forward to an excellent group of students!  
Excelsior! Academy

Excelsior! teaches the arts through the context of history. This historical framework heightens the students' understanding and appreciation for the art, music, and drama of that period.   Excelsior! Academy teaches students ages 4 years old through High School.  We study history using a four-year cycle:  Ancients, Middle Ages/Renaissance/Reformation, Explorers to 1650, Colonies to present. For the school year 2008-2009 we will be studying Middle Ages/Renaissance, Reformation. Our classes meet on Tuesdays from September through March.

The Midlands Home School Resource Center
The Midlands Home School Resource Center (MHSRC) has been established to aid parents who need assistance in teaching their child the upper level mathematics, science, foreign language, and/or English courses required to graduate from high school and to prepare their child for college.  The key elements of Christianity will be unapologetically taught through the science and literature courses offered.
Each class meets on Monday and Thursday in Lexington.

You can come to a couple or three meetings before you decide if it's something you want to do.  This group is about 75% homeschoolers.  CAP counts as PE!  CAP is about Aerospace Education, Leadership and FUN!  You will have access to more than 300 online courses offered through the USAF!  If flying is your dream - you will not find a more inexpensive program!  Motorized or Glider!

Mathematics Tutorial Assistance and Classes - Rick Bailey, Mathematics Department Chair at Midlands Tech, is utilizing State-of-the-art Web-based Assessment and Learning Tools (ALEKS) to provide assistance to homeschooling families.  Offerings include classes and tutoring in arithmetic through calculus, college math placement test preparation, SAT preparation, and Saturday Homework help especially for high-school aged students. 
Midlands Technical College can provide the classes on campus that interest your youngsters at a tuition that pleases parents. Classes are available for all ages.  Enroll now in these popular electives that introduce students to new computer, language, and writing experiences; then reinforce the etiquette skills needed in today’s society. Violin and Viola - Jarrod Haning is offering private lessons for those who are looking to improve their technical and musical skills. Lessons cover performance, theory, aural skills, practicing, orchestra and solo pieces, playing while "nervous", and a few other areas, which are intended to increase your enjoyment of playing.

Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens
Programs are offered most Mondays of each month, September through May, at 9:30am for the 5- to 8-year-old program and at 11:00am for the 9- to 12-year-old program. The cost is $10 per student (includes free admission to the Zoo for the student and one accompanying adult). This rate applies ONLY to those taking part in the program. ART CLASSES for Home School Students - Retired National Board Certified Art teacher with 32 years of experience will be teaching elementary aged students on Mondays for the 2009-2010 school year. Students are welcome to join the class as long as spaces remain; class size will be limited to eight students. REVISED AGE GROUPS 2nd & 3rd graders will meet from 1-2 pm ($10/class), and 4th-6th graders will meet from 2:30-3:45  pm ($12/class). There will be a one-time $25 registration fee for materials. Outside the Lines ~ Creative Writing Classes  focus on studying examples of good writing in all genres, developing each student's writing craft, and giving students a vision to use language to glorify God and edify people. Taught by Rebekah Ackerman, a homeschool graduate with a B.S. in Elementary/Early Childhood Education.

Nomad Backcountry Adventures offers an educational outdoor adventures for teenagers. Younger kids accepted with an adult. We also do custom trips for groups.For custom trips, we require groups of five or more.
